Woke up this morning with a very sore back and a big smile.

Marmite, Subtle and Shiny all hit the afternoon race at Chew. In Shiny, I sadly read the course wrong and our storming start was sadly aimed at the wrong mark. Subtle and Marmite were close up the beat to the hoist - Subtle loisng out as their kite appeared to be rigged upsidedown. Marmite took the race on the water and on HC.

Some good downwind racing legs and great to see Subtle blasting about (after re-rigging kite).

Ah, it was a fantastic weekend..

Funny moment when my trapeze line snapped at full speed downwind!

Ps, For the record..  just a tangled up downhaul  ::)  Havent made the upside down mistake for at least a few weeks now...  8)

I always like it when the sail maker prints on the corners which one is which! Still not entirely fool proof but certainly helps!

Atum's kite has tack, clew, head penned on with a permanent marker. Not set it upside down yet!

Yep, Joe and I, still in our 2nd year of Cherubs, have yet to actually go out without having to re-rig the kite whilst on the water. Even at the inlands we had to re-tie it on our way to the start line.
I blame it on the crew!!! nowt to do with me, the front end!
I always seem to get the downhaul wrong... pulling round the guy after a gibe! (try and try again)  Makes it interesting fumbling around trying to stay dry doing it though.

Extra hilarious when the jokers you go sailing with have written on the wrong corners...

A brilliant sabotage opportunity for unmarked kites.
I go by the edging tape colours  and try to remember that the head is the thinner corner.

The downhaul is always the tricky one and is always best put on last.

We have a foolproof method of spinnaker rigging head and tack first then sheets on the clew, followed by downhaul. Then just take the sheet inside the kite and outside the forstay/jib before going through the blocks and tying together.

One of the great things about rigging boats on there side is that it's no problem hoisting and checking on both tacks before launching even in strong wind as long as you keep it sheeted in hard.

Thanks for the sail yesterday. The memory of the screaming uphill leg before you were hit by a wave and bounced off the rudder on your exit from the boat will stay with me for longer than the "perma grin" I am annoying Hayley with. The look of complete surprise as you were left lying on the water was priceless.

Summary:
It was windy at Chew this weekend. Windy and shifty. We were offered subtle for the afternoon race, but after a quick recce from a rib, we went for the 97 option. Big grins followed. Polly is learning to crew and tired after a lap or so of big gusts. I then persuaded her to helm and the wind got stronger - sufficient to say I spent the rest of the trip  dropped to the knots of the wire of Born Slippy and grinning like a fool.

Removal team booked. Evo leaving the office tomorrow 5.30PM. Will be a tight squeeze on the stairs, but doing the removal at office leaving time forces the issue (help or be trapped in).

Hoping to re-instate the voice activated auto spinnaker hoist and drop system in time for the weekend.

H&I were hoping for a gentle warm up session to see how her arm was ahead of the open at Chew (8 days away). However, looks like two very different days of weekend ahead. 

So which XC weather day should we aim for?
