Sorry...

...no boat...
...too far...
...going to a 30th b'day bash in London...

But have fun!

Tim Noyce

I have the afternoon booked off work now so should be leaving at roughly midday via Leeds to pick up Alex. What are peoples accomodation plans? The Vi isn't as spacious as the old 'scort so I don't really fancy kipping in that all weekend! Might have to try and locate a tent from somewhere as that should be pretty cheap.

neal_gibson

tent all the way for me i'm sure if you got stuck there'd be space in peoples tents.

however if your not after a early night then they sometime slet you sleep in the clubhouse

The forecast isn't looking very exciting at the moment...

Serious plannage in the works...

Tim Noyce

I have purchased my accomodation for the weekend... 3 man tent from Asda for £18.98! Bargain!

Don't talk about the forecast Burkin, I am living for the weekends at the moment so don't ruin it for me!

Kielder Day 1:
Club: Excellent as usual
Sailing water: Likewise. Reservoir very high. Literally miles of uncrowded water to play with.
Overall turnout: Pretty good. 5 Cherubs. Mixture of 49ers, Int 14, B14's, lots of Musto Skiffs, 59ers, Iso and 12 Foot Skiff (and probably some others I can't remember). About 30 boats in all.
Wind: much better than forecast. Abt F2-3, with periods of 4ish.
Weather: Absolutely bloody awful. Ken's wife said the thermometer in the car never got above 4 degC all day. Rain, with squalls of severe rain/hail. Everybody hypothermic with numb feet and hands. However, as usual, everybody having a great time and pretty happy to be here!
Race officer says forecast for tomorrow is somewhere betweeen 3 and 22 knots, depending on which forecaster you look up. I guess as usual Kielder will do its own thing regardless of prevailing weather conditions. Despite the weather, those of you who didn't make it are missing out!

Well done all.

We sailed the Severnside Enterprise Area Champs at Penarth.  Saturday Windy and confused sea.  down winds were difficult.  1 swim and average results. Today lighter and shfty winds, flat sea.  We had 2 wins and a 6th.  3rd overal and Sarah was first lady.  Her trophy was better than the winners.

See you at Draycote.

Keilder - View from Slippy

Day 1:
Everyone else appeared to have wind for most of the time. We appeared to have zero co-ordination, a grumpy helm and got becalmed in every race. Manged to tail-end flat stanley in race 1 and ruin both of our starts  when the CB floated up and got stuck in the kicker. This set the tone for the rest of the day. Didn't do the long distance as crew far too cold and helm falling asleep.
Lovely club, good food and a very early night.

Day 2:
Lots more rig tension and 12 hours sleep painted a new picture. Witin 10 mintues of setting off we had sorted the kite hoist and actually did some racing - beat SB and the Demon in one race.

Least said about the drive home the better, even with that we will be there next year. Fantastic venue, lovely people and geenerally a place to return to. The idea of maybe staying up there for a bit longer sounds like a great plan.

Still wondering how the demon managed to capsize heading upwind in 3knots of breeze?

Tim Noyce

Oh, thanks for mentioning that Slippy! If you hadn't have said anything, no one would have known! It wasn't once we capsized... it was twice! We were trying to be too clever I think, roll tacking in front of the mast isn't the best of plans if you have areas with no grip!

Awesome weekend. The most trouble I had on the drive home was getting out of the car at the other end as my legs had completely seized up, oh, and the fact I stood on a 2 inch nail which went straight through my trainer and into the ball of my foot! I don't recommend it!

Highlight of the weekend for me was overtaking Will and Lucy... for the first time ever! An unfortunate incident involving a 49er meant the lead was only held for 2 laps but it still counts!!  ;D

neal_gibson

sorry to hear you had a bad drive home hope it was more tiem than trouble with boats.

view from suicide was 1 very wet both from rain and spray, ons aturday however some excelelnt sailing and realising that Beans and primal were pretty damn quick,

when the wind shifted discovered that being out elft downwind was not the best plan.

sunday dawned foggy dont think it was my eyes anyhoo. lightwinds ensued all day race 1 neck and neck with primal at the windward mark allowed beans past downwind however enver let primal or beans get too far ahead.

race 2 another close beat with primal beans catching quick again and off downwind beans went out right at the gate and we went left left beans for dead in no wind and sailed downwind leaving beans to retire or so we thought turns out we got a finish as we went through the gate on lap 1.

race 3 too busy talking enough said wind died limped home just.

great prizegiving usual friendly kielder banter.
